I have only one word about this place & that is "dump." Overpriced, junky in the extreme. Side by side sites are narrow & the permanent party sites were junked up with old rusty cars sitting around, & other junk sitting out. RVs didn't look like they had been moved in years & were dirty. The whole campground had a look of neglect.

We loved the park. Rates are cheap. Park is scenic with the remains of railroad tracks, depot (can't go in it), remains of coal mining operation next door, green grass. If you like a quiet place with ruins & history to explore, this park & whole area has plenty of that. We couldn't get the cable TV to work. We mentioned this to the museum where you register, & they told us to check with City Hall, which we didn't do. There are trees planted in the park, but not big enough to give shade. Also there is no sign out on the road showing the location of the campground! The roads are narrow in that area & there isn't any place to make a turn in a big rig, so we were lucky to find it. There is no bathhouse or office, only the Kentucky Coal Museum where you register. I was also disappointed that the mine tour wasn't open & one of the volunteers said it hadn't been open for a year and a half, & it didn't sound like it was going to be open anytime soon.

This campground was scenic with 2 pretty lakes. We were only there 2 nights, but were given a lake site. The season was winding down, but the campground was kept up. Most sites were neat. Someone came out promptly to weedeat & mow when we asked them to cut down some of the weeds. (A seasonal camper had just left the site.)
